The 5V Submersible Water Pressure Sensor is the analogue level sensor I use in my current water tank projects. It sits near the bottom of the tank and produces a voltage that changes with the pressure created by the water above it.
In my LoRa tank sensor it runs from a 5V supply and gives an analogue output of roughly 0 to 3.3V, which can be read by an ESP32 ADC after calibration.
Check the listing carefully before buying because submersible pressure sensors are sold with different supply voltages, pressure ranges and output types. The link on this page is for the 5V analogue-output style used in my tank build, not a 4–20mA industrial transmitter.
What to check before buying
The important details are the sensor supply voltage, output type, pressure range and cable length. The version I use is powered from 5V and provides a low-voltage analogue output suitable for an ESP32 ADC.
- Choose a pressure range that suits the maximum water depth you actually need to measure.
- Confirm the listing is the voltage-output version if you plan to read it directly with an ADC.
- Allow enough cable length to reach from the bottom of the tank to a dry enclosure without an underwater join.
- Calibrate the sensor in your own tank rather than relying on the advertised full-scale figures.
My own projects use measured calibration points so small differences between individual sensors do not have to be guessed in software.
