Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2 is the official second-generation Zigbee and Thread adapter for Home Assistant. It uses a Silicon Labs MG24 radio, a tuned external antenna and a USB-C connection to provide a dedicated local radio for either Zigbee or Thread.

It is designed for straightforward setup inside Home Assistant and can be used with ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT for Zigbee. For Thread, it can be dedicated to a Thread network for Matter-over-Thread devices.

Check the retailer listing before buying, as pricing can vary by region. The ZBT-2 can run Zigbee or Thread, but not both at the same time.

What to know before buying

The ZBT-2 is a good fit if you want an official Home Assistant radio with simple setup, firmware updates and migration tools built around the Home Assistant ecosystem.

A single ZBT-2 must be dedicated to either Zigbee or Thread. It cannot run both protocols simultaneously. If you want separate Zigbee and Thread networks, use a dedicated radio for each.

For Zigbee, it works with Home Assistant’s ZHA integration and is also supported by Zigbee2MQTT. Placement still matters, so use the included cable to keep the antenna away from noisy USB ports, metal enclosures and other sources of 2.4 GHz interference.
